Smalltalk

Lovelorn, conversation-like lyrics, guitars jangling over pounding rhythms, an idiosyncratic vocal style, and a healthy nod to any number of old-school indie-pop and post-punk acts; SMALLTALK "Plus!" collects all four
of the bands out-of-print, vinyl only, EP releases.
For Fans of: THE WEDDING PRESENT, THE SMITHS, THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, THE CURE, ORANGE JUICE, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN, PSYCHEDELIC FURS

Sun Voyager

Three lifelong friends from the mountains of New York's Hudson Valley region, Sun Voyager makes music for space cadets who prefer the long haul on the open road. Currently based in New York City, the band started off rehearsing in the back of a family taco joint, playing bars, legion halls, and anywhere noise is (or isn't) permitted throughout the Northeast. They've shared bills with Pissed Jeans, White Denim, Roky Erickson, Ruby The Hatchet, The Parlor Mob, Slow Season, and California X.

Saturday

Ready for a full day of live music, shopping, eating (drinking) and camping? Our partner event, The Asbury Bazaar kicks off at noon inside the Grande Arcade of Convention Hall and we open doors to the Beach at 1PM. Bands kick off shortly thereafter. And once the live music ends, DJ MIKE MERRELL will be spinning the biggest beach dance party on the east coast from 10pm - close!

The Parlor Mob (8pm)

The Parlor Mob (originally named What About Frank?) is a rock band founded in New Jersey in 2004. The name comes from one of the notorious Hell's Kitchen gangs active at the turn of the 20th century. The band presently consists of singer Mark Melicia, guitarists David James Rosen and Paul Ritchie, and drummer Sam Bey.

Some of the band's songs have been featured on television, on shows such as Entourage, Friday Night Lights, Person of Interest, and more, as well as in video games such as NASCAR 09, MLB 09: The Show, MLB 12: The Show and Sleeping Dogs.

Rye_Coalition.jpg

Rye Coalition (7pm)

Rye Coalition began in 1993 with five high school friends who bonded through a love of indie/hardcore/punk rock. Rehearsing in their parent’s Jersey City basements and graduating to VFW halls and indie rock clubs (Brownies, Coney Island High, CBGBs, Maxwells), Rye Coalition helped shape the 90’s New Jersey/New York City indie/punk scene.  Over the following years, they recorded with famed engineer Steve Albini and rock maven Dave Grohl touring relentlessly with everyone from Shellac, Trans Am, Mars Volta, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters and many more.
"If everybody got a chance to see Rye Coalition they’d go again. If they could FIND their records they’d buy millions of them. These guys are badass & they can fucking smoke anybody."- Dave Grohl

MissTKAndTheRevenge.jpg

Miss TK & The Revenge (6pm)

Revolving around the New Jersey based wife-and-husband duo Tannis Kristanjson and Ari Katz, Miss TK & the Revenge mix punk, dance-pop, and new wave into their own danceable, playful sound. Katz was the singer for Lifetime in the early '90s before forming the drone-pop group Zero Zero with Kristanjson, who sang and played keyboards. The band dissolved after releasing 2001's AM Gold, but soon after the duo formed Miss TK & the Revenge, which also features guitarist Zak and bassist Jamie J 5. In spring 2004, the band went into the studio and recorded its debut album, XOXO, which was released by Gern Blandsten that fall.

High Disciple (5:15pm)

High Disciple are a dub trio but their lineup has quite the post-hardcore pedigree. They’ve got Chris Daly of Texas Is the Reason, 108, Jets to Brazil, Resurrection and more; and Scott St. Hilaire, who was in Lifetime for their first album; plus Dub For Light‘s Larry DiGiovanni. It’s trippy stuff, and you can check out a few songs below.

High Disciple are opening the Philly, NYC and Jersey stops of Chris’ former TITR bandmate Garrett Klahn‘s full-band tour in support of his new self-titled solo album.

.

Star Spangles (4:25pm)

-School chums and fellow dirtbags Ian Wilson(voc) and Tommy Volume(guit) form The Star Spangles in the style of classic NYC style rock and roll, with an emphasis on songs, presentation and badittude. 1st show played at the Gershwin Hotel in '98.

-More gigs played, audiences polarized, leads to 1st 45 single on Spain's Munster Records.

-Link up with legendary A&R man Howard Thompson (Motorhead, Suicide, Psychedlic Furs), leads to a million $ deal with Capitol Records and Parlophone UK.

-Tours of the US, UK, Europe and Japan, tons of energetic live shows. Musical guests on Letterman and Carson Daly tv shows baffling couch potatoes.

Life Eaters (3:45pm)

Nobody’s all over Hudson County like Life Eaters.

While the band officially hails from Jersey City, it’s on the Kearny-based Killing Horse Records (co-founded by frontman and local boy Mike Sylvia) and practices in, of all places, a Bayonne hair salon.

At A Cut Above, the quintet jams out to create loud, hard punk sounds. Their tunes cover everything from people mindlessly regurgitating political preaching from talking heads on TV (“Government Kicks,” Sylvia’s personal favorite) to getting in a fight with three people at a gym in Lyndhurst (the song, which shares a name with the salon, is a true tale ripped from Sylvia’s diary).

The Morgan Freemasons.jpg

Sunshine & The Rain (3pm)

Sunshine & The Rain is a rock duo consisting of husband and wife Ashley Morey (vocals, bass) and Justin Morey(guitar), both formerly of critically acclaimed psych rockers The Black Hollies. Formed around the same time as the 2014 dissolution of their former band, S&tR kicked things off with the Jesus & Mary Chain vibes of their debut 7″ “Can’t Stop Thinking About You b/w Pale Blue Skies” in late 2015.

The Tide Bends (2:15pm)

Drawing on neo-psychedelic and shoegaze music, the Tide Bends sun-warped, garage-accented sound nods to influences ranging from Cream to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, from Neil Young to the Stone Roses.  The Band is out of Neptune, NJ and their debut EP, “Greened” was released independently in September, 2016.

The Morgan Freemasons (1:30pm)

The Morgan Freemasons were voted Best New Band in the Asbury Park Music Awards 2016. They've also comprised some of our favorite bands over the last few years in Last Perfect Things, Status Green, and more! Be sure to catch them opening up the Beach Stage of Indian Summer 2017!

Sunday

Sunday kicks off with Yoga on the beach at 10, followed by (as it should be) Brunch hosted at The Anchors Bend starting at 10AM.  So pack up that tent, get healthy, then start the day with the biggest and best brunch in Asbury! Bands kick off at 11:30AM on the Beach Stage with the perfect line up of amazing artists to make that Sunday morning nice and easy!

Band of Changes (3pm)

Featuring  (Chris Harford, Joe Russo, Dave Dreiwitz, Robbie Seahag, Scott Metzger)

A constantly evolving, consistently changing series of musical performances by a band that never plays the same songs in the same way twice. Chris Harford has been playing music now for decades. He has surrounded himself with musicians his whole life, playing with some of the best out there. I can name names, but the actual players are less of an issue that the attitude that he, and all the musicians he plays with, take on. In the spirit of Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys, Chris invites musicians he meets to be in his band whenever he hears or sees something special. This has resulted in a legacy of players, many of whom have moved on to form or be part of enormously successful bands, but who are always happy to come home and play Chris’ music for the sake of playing Chris’ music. You might see him play solo acoustic on a Monday night at the local bar. Or you might see him as a DJ teasing tunes out of the ‘X-Box’. What kind of music do they play? All kinds: Folk music, rock music, happy music, sad music, loud music, quiet music. All music. See them. Then see them again!

Thomas Wynn & The Believers (2pm)

Meet Thomas Wynn & The Believers, an American band with a striking new organic rock record about building a better life, a life you really believe in. Named #1 Rock Band and #1 Country/Folk Band in the city for seven consecutive years by the Orlando Weekly, Thomas Wynn & The Believers are breaking beyond the Southern rock scene with the release of their new album, Wade Waist Deep, their Mascot Label Group debut.

The record is packed with the facts that make American music timeless—the deep Southern heat of the guitars, the complex, pulsing rhythms, and the male-female vocal harmonies that sound like only a brother and sister can. Breathtakingly in-sync with his vocalist sister, Olivia Wynn Roche, Thomas Wynn sings about overcoming fear to become the person you were meant to be. Wynn, who fell in love with The Band’s first album Music from Big Pink in his early teens, while his peers were into Green Day, brings classic country rock and soul into the new century with tunes that evoke the best of CSNY, Levon Helm, and John Prine.

karmic-juggernaut-paul-sky.jpg

Karmic Juggernaut (1:15pm)

Blending elements of psychedelic-funk, blues, jazz, and progressive rock, Karmic Juggernaut is an overwhelming force of sound. Formed in 2004, the band is based out of Asbury Park, NJ and have performed with many notable names including Umphrey’s McGee, Bernie Worrell, Keller Williams, Marco Benevento, moe., Kung Fu, Screaming Headless Torsos, and many more.  KJ has amassed a reputation over their twelve years for their eclectic taste, musical skills, unique stage performances, and innovative solar-powered recordings using the Sun Lab Studio.

Karmic Juggernaut has won numerous awards in their tenure including “Top Young Band”, “Top Jamband”, “Top Drummer”, and “Top Guitarist” at the Asbury Music Awards as well as “Top NJ Documentary” at the Asbury Film Festival. The band has been featured on PBS’ Driving Jersey Program, Comcast Bands on Demand, and in Relix Magazine among many other publications and programs.

Michigander (12:30pm)

Jason Singer has been going by the moniker Michigander since early 2013. The homegrown singer-songwriter project evolved from humble house show roots to a full band performing alongside indie mainstays like Ra Ra Riot, JR JR and Tokyo Police Club. Singer himself is a true hustler who jumps at any opportunity to share his underdog anthems with anyone who will listen.

Jackson Pines ( CANCELLED )

Jackson Pines is a band from Philadelphia, PA that has just released their first full length album, “Purgatory Road”. It was produced by Simone Felice (The Lumineers' "Cleopatra") at his Sugar Mountain Studio in Palenville, NY in the summer of 2016 after he heard two of Joe’s demos. Featuring members of The Felice Brothers (Simone and James) the record mainly focuses on the duo of Joe Makoviecki, 27, on guitar/vocals and James Black, 27, on stand up and electric bass. These songs were written at a time of indecision and angst in their lives as their last band parted ways and Joe’s mother fell ill. The tumultuous nature of current events, growing up, and the feeling of moving from one phase of their lives into the next permeates this record, but the songs seek to find a way out of the malaise through nurturing positive relationships with companions, friends, and family, even and especially when it feels like they’re slipping away. Combining singer-songwriter sentiments with the tradition of American folk music, Jackson Pines harkens to a time we think was better than now, but insists the best is yet to come. Their new EP "Lost & Found" is out now on band camp and spotify, it was premiered by Billboard magazine.
